Dancing Brave's iconic Arc success is voted the greatest ever horserace.
Racing Post 23/7/2022

I agree, how about you lot?

No mention of flat track bully hype machine Frankel.
Drugged up Secretariat down the field.

The most popular three choices were separated by just one per cent of the total vote, but the tightest of tussles has ended with Racing Post readers deciding that Dancing Brave's 1986 Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe deserves to be called the greatest ever horserace.

In a photo-finish outcome to the public poll, the most iconic of all Arcs gained 17 per cent of the vote, pushing it just ahead of the 1973 Grand National duel between Crisp and Red Rum. That ended on 16.1 per cent, with 16 per cent selecting the 1975 King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Stakes, in which Grundy and Bustino fought out a famous finish up Ascot's home straight.

One of the strongest fields ever to grace a major European Flat race was pulverised by the Pat Eddery-ridden Dancing Brave, who unleashed an incredible burst of speed that completely overwhelmed fellow turf superstars Bering, Triptych and Shahrastani.

It was a performance that resulted in the Guy Harwood-trained Dancing Brave receiving what remains the highest ever official global racehorse ranking. It also earned him a special place in the heart of his late owner Khalid Abdullah, whose colours have subsequently been carried by two other racing legends, Frankel and Enable.

Juddmonte spokesman.
"It is always more meaningful when a result like this is won by a public vote, especially some 36 years after the race"

The races that finished outside the first three, in no particular order, were the Cheltenham Gold Cups of 1964 (Arkle v Mill House), 1986 (Dawn Run) and 1989 (Desert Orchid), Mandarin's 1962 Grand Steeplechase de Paris, Secretariat's 1973 Belmont Stakes, the 2001 Irish Champion Stakes head-to-head between Fantastic Light and Galileo and the 2005 Champion Hurdle won by Hardy Eustace.

Manuel, to be honest I totally lost interest mid-90’s as following form took up so much of my time and other things became more important . Although it was pricked on several occasions due to horse such as Best Mate, Frankel …

A 3 time GC winner is clearly an exceptional horse

Do not disagree with anything suggested and could never knock Dancing brave's Arc but I have always thought Golden Fleece's derby was the best race I have seen. Vincent O Brien ( who knew a bit about horses ) said 'such speed' ! All the horses he beat have not too shabby C.Vs also

Mace66, Bang average you say: was a 2 miler, but went on to win 4 King Georges' at 3 miles, then a gruelling Gold Cup over 3 1/4 miles.

Best Mate's the best horse I saw live. Went to see him a few times at Huntingdon, even walking round the parade he looked class and he had a great temperament. Sadly I never got to see my favourite jumper, Denman

mace - Yea, I was there in 89, remember going down in the motor and checking if it was still on due to the snow..seems a lifetime ago now.

How did/do you rate Best Mate?

Actually, bob average is unfair but he certainly looked to have past his best and missed the boat as far as a Gold Cup was concerned

arsene - agreed on Arkle and he was saying bviously a better chaser than Dessie. But Dessie gets my vote for probably the best Chase I’ve ever seen ( 89 Gold Cup ) as it was a fairytale, a bob average horse who became a massive household favourite before winning the Gold Cup

Looked totally done after the last, I was gutted. Then one of the biggest roars you’ll ever hear from the crowd and it was like he suddenly knew why he was there. And, of course, Peter O’Sullivan’s commentary to top it off was marvellous

Anybody who thinks there was a better chaser than Arkle obviously hadn't seen him and hasn't read their racing history. I was at Sandown the day he destroyed one of the best fields ever assembled It was the Gallagher Gold Cup giving huge amounts of weight to all the others including Mill House and winning by 20 lengths, taking 17 seconds (SEVENTEEN) off the course record. For me it was up there with West Ham winning the World Cup as a spectacle.

Talking of cracking races, stunner there in the long distance cup.

Got some bollocks that Trueshan.

Just finished watching that 1973 National with Crisp and Red Rum, poor old Crisp could barely run at the end and Rummy came from 30 lengths behind to win by a short head, phenomenal race

NS,

After KS was beaten in the 2008 Cheltenham GC I was standing in the parade ring & I thought Kauto Star looked so tired that he'd never win a race again.
The following month I confidently laid him on Betfair in the Aintree Bowl Chase.
He was beaten - but it wasn't because he was 'tired'. Ruby Walsh gave the horse a bad ride. Nicholls came up with the race tactics & blamed himself for telling Ruby what to do. That was put to Walsh after the race & he said yeah, Paul told me what to do but I was the one who executed the plan. He said it was up to him to change tactics mid-race & he didn't do it.
So while I collected on my lay bet that day I thankfully realised that Kauto Star was far from finished.

I'm sorry, I won't have any jumper over Arkle:

1966 Cheltenham Gold Cup 10/1 on favourite, wins by 30 fucking lengths

Yeah Frodon is a cracking horse... never missed a fence... always the underdog... great partnership with Frost... and I have also won a shit load on the 2 of them...

I think Frodon's win will go down as one of the most memorable wins of late, brave, tough little horse and a very emotional Briony Frost

You know what is the lovely thing to see is that after his 5th KG the other jockeys are congratulating the horse as much as they are Ruby walsh...

Frankel was an absolute beast of a horse... really wished they had taken him abroad though to an Arc or a Breeders Cup... might have stopped a lot of the discussions as whether he was worthy or not... was at his last race the Champions stakes at Ascot... one of teh biggest roars I have ever heard when Tom Q' moved him out to take the lead... he had everything against him that day.. conditions (there was talk of them pulling him out on the drive up to Ascot) ... 2 great soft ground horses... and for me that was his best performance... class and guts.

My fav jumper was Kauto Star... his fallibility is what made him such box office... and he needed his stable mate Denman to get teh best out of him... however my fav race of his was when he was looked as too old and past it and Nichols got him primed for the Betfair (his 4th) and the King George (his 5th)... amazing scenes.

Agree with that.
I've mentioned the Denman, Kauto Star, Long Run Gold.

Baeed reminds me of Frankel. Beating a load of shit over a mile when we now know he could have campaigned over I mile 2 and 1 mile 4. Too late now.

He will probably get horse of the year. But most people in the racing game will remember Alphanista with more affection.
